What are some of your favorite memories and good time that have taken place in the OBX or on the way to and from.

My favorite memory is about 2-3 years ago i was standing at the edge of the ocean talking to this girl and my cousin runs full peed from about 50 feet away, from the rest of the family and full out tackles me into the ocean and wave. Totally ruined my moment hahahaha.

Ok, showing my age, but back in 1973 went to OBX for 1st time with famliy. Loved the large waves and swimming in the ocean, until a guy named Doug took me to see the movie "Jaws" at the local movie theater. Took me 2 days to get the nerve up to go back in the water!

Getting up the last morning of our trip to finally view the beautiful sunrise alone with the hubby. It was a very bittersweet moment.

Good question, but too hard to answer. Way too many good times competing for 1st place.

First year we rented a house at the OBX. We'd just taken a late night stroll on the beach after many co*cktails and we sang Day-O on the way back to our house at 4 am.*I'm not sure if we were anyone else's favorite memory that night*

1st year we went our daughter was 5 y/o. I secretly bought & brought super soaker squirt guns on vacation. The look on her face when my wife & I blasted her was priceless. A few years after that when our daughter discovered that the hot tub at the house was up on the crows nest. Enjoying the ocean view from the hot tub when our daughter & her friend who were facing the other direction told us to turn around and we got to watch the sun set over the sound.

My favorite memory of OBX is back in the early 1970s when I was a kid. We rented the traditional beach houses with flat roofs. The typical rental at that time had no AC, washer, dryer, dishwasher, color TV or other “necessity” we take for granted today. We spent the entire day at the beach and it was a blast. At that time there was very minimal development west of highway 12 and no traffic jams. Added Note: The bottom pic is from the Dare County web site. This cottage is the second house on the left on 2nd Ave, Southern Shores. It is no longer a rental.Click to follow link...

First the beaches wasn't crowded. My first trip was in 1983 and watching my sons playing in the ocean and and we went body surfing and my youngest built a trap to catch a ghost crab when all said he wouldn't, he did, he was only 7 yrs. old. now he's 31 oops now I'm telling my age. Been coming back every year since then. Sorry to say this will be our last unless changes are made and we are given our fishing spots back.:roflmao:

Now that is a true beach cottage. Hard to believe that some of the 8 BR places with pools and jacuzzis call themselves cottages too. Ahhhh...the good ole days. Great photos Flood! Do you have any more?

Roanokeis, I do have more but they are at my parents' house. I'll be visiting them next month, so I'll try to dig them out and scan them.

What are some of your favorite memories and good time that have taken place in the OBX or on the way to and from.

Favorite memories? The ones from my next visit. But other than those, the first time I saw a full moon rise over the ocean. A "you have to see it" moment. Or that amazing late afternoon and early evening fishing in July on our first weeklong trip. Every cast caught a spot. Sometimes two. Or the sunrises, the dolphins playing, remembering how each of my kids reacted to the place when they were two (oldest is 15, youngest is 3), my middle son falling in the pool and swimming to the side when he was 3 (thank you swimming lessons!), or....too many to mention. But not enough to keep me from coming back for more.

We've been going for the past 5 yrs. sometimes alone as a family and sometimes with friends. I just love watching my kids: swimming, looking for shells, chasing the crabs, mini golfing. I just love our time together. They've given up Disney three yrs. in a row to go back to OBX. Can't say I blame them!

I have a lot but one year I was fishing at South Point on Ocraco*ke and I had my line hit by a ray twice and twice it was pulled out of the sand spike, fortunately it didn’t get far before I grabbed it, I asked my daughter about 10 then to watch my line as I was rebaiting another, Thinking she would tend to it in case it came out again . I herd her yell there it goes again , I looked it was heading out to sea. I did a running fling leap and caught it , LOL I though she would have kept a hand on it , but no problem I got it in time
