So glad to be here for two weeks! Belk Parking lot in KDH. Probably 25 trucks gathered around. People milling around. Large pick up trucks. Many sporting fancy wheels and lights. Any idea what this is? What happened to Mahi Mahi restaurant? What is going on with Beach 104 Radio? That’s all for today. |

The trucks are a whole thing. I didn't know they were meeting up at Belk, but they do love tearing up and down the beach road sharing their music with huge panels of speakers in the beds aimed backward so we can hear it long after they have gone by. Or speakers mounted to the top of the cab with a PA so they can talk to you as they drive by. It's delightful. They all seem to be squatted somewhat. I thought the Carolina Squat was outlawed, but these must meet some kind of standard that is acceptable. I have been here for a few weeks and have seen some of these over the whole time I've been here. May not be tourists. |

104.1 moved their transmitter from the 1000 ft tower in Mamie NC to ?? Not sure where they will be. 99.1 went off the air because of a lack of funding. I hear they are online. Mahi Mahi ?? Why do you ask about them? I was there on fathers day but the line was too long for me to wait. |

Drove by Mahi yesterday and lot was empty at 4:05 ish. I'll be sad if they closed, they had the restaurant for sale up until they reopened for the spring. I still see a for sale sign up in front and when I was there at fathers day they had the bar seating closed - that is where I always eat and I have never seen it closed to seating. Bartender Jodie was not there and they have hiring signs online. |

What beach radio stations are left? It surprises me about funding when there are so many permanent residents. |

We only listen to Radio Hatteras-101.5. No commercials and music is great. They are run by donations. |

I have been here for a few weeks and have seen some of these over the whole time I've been here. May not be tourists. Now that we live here, I've noticed the increased number of loud trucks and cars that speed by day and night booming as they go. It's like the entire group of east coast red necks has discovered the outer banks and are seeing what they can get away with before sending out the beacon to the rest of the 'necks. I saw one of those Carolina squat trucks last week in Kitty Hawk heading to the beach road. It was full on squat, not even a little bit close to the required standard. I'm thinking he didn't make it far before getting pulled. GET OFF MY ROAD *shakes imaginary cane* |

I'm thinking he didn't make it far before getting pulled. The squat trucks are actual death traps - they kill people they can't see. I'd hope the cops will be more serious about ticketing them but the fines aren't really much of a deterrent until the third one - NC Fines: |

I guess I am in lala land as I have never heard of the squat truck thing. I guess I should have since my son was on a Baja team in college and made wild looking cars to show and race all over the US for four years. Trucks weren't involved at all though. I'll check it out when we cruise down the bypass the next time we are there if we come through that way vs Rt 64. |

I’m right there with you in lala land , Bent That makes three of us. I can see a lifted truck not being able to see someone below the hood line, but a squatted truck? |

I guess I am in lala land as I have never heard of the squat truck thing. I guess I should have since my son was on a Baja team in college and made wild looking cars to show and race all over the US for four years. I always figured the origin of it was an attempt to make a street truck look like a baja race truck, but it failed... miserably. |

Pics are hilarious! I HAVE to ask my son about this. He is an engineer for a truck modification company for the east coast. I am guessing that Volvo, Peterbuilt, and Freightliner have never asked him to design this. But he would.... |

The funniest pic I have seen is the guy with the white squatted truck stop so he could let his white female dog take a leak. The truck & the dog were at about the same angle front to back. |

So...I was about to make a comment along the lines of "your son is a professional, works in the /industrybusiness...while he may have heard of the squat, he prob just laughs and rolls his eyes as he knows the squat is pure poseur" Well...apparently, the squat was originally a "baja thing"...that the front end lift was to provide additional front end/motor protection by increasing the ground clearance. Did not know that (or...even if true ) |

I will have to definitely check with him on the squat business. I'm sure he knows exactly what it is and you're right, he probably does roll his eyes and laughs about that nonsense! |

I'm thinking he didn't make it far before getting pulled. I think I saw it at Wawa last week, a white pickup. I remember years ago Florida enacted a law for too dark tinting. Police were worried about seeing into the vehicle on a stop. But I've been to FL many times since then, I think they've given up. They'd have to pull over 60% of the cars on the road. |

Maybe they want to be like the OG squat. They look stupid and were very popular in central NC and VA a few years ago. Still popular it seems, but maybe a little less so. I can't imagine a truck lasting long with those kinds of mods. OG squat for reference. |
