Job DescriptionAs a library services employee, you have a representative role in an environment where content-related services, digital support, safety, and hospitality are central. You are part of the Information Team, with core tasks including first-line information provision to our visitors and support in the use of our (digital) learning spaces. Our target audience consists of students, researchers, and staff of Maastricht University (UM) and other partners. Mastering the library (loan) administration system and the associated administrative processes is essential for this role. You work both in the public space and in the back office, taking the lead in organizing various activities and events from your additional focus area. Your core tasks include:
Providing information services in our information lounge/desks and (digital) learning spaces at different locations. As the first point of contact, you guide our visitors through the university library and contribute to an adequate and effective handling of questions about scientific information and other university library (UB) services. This occurs physically in the public space, by phone, email, and eventually via chat. Additionally, you assist and advise our visitors in independently using scientific information sources and search engines.
Independently and collaboratively presenting collections, activities, and events attractively, focusing on content themes and tours at our locations. A good overview of our collection, services, and facilities is required.
Providing facilities and technical support in managing and using our digital information skills labs. You also support facilities for the university library as a "living lab" and the use of UB equipment such as the self-service unit.
You visibly and actively propagate our vision on hospitality and safety within UB locations, ensuring compliance with our house rules.
You also strive to optimize the use of facilities, services (physical and online), and user experiences.
Each team member has one or more specific focus areas for which he/she is the lead responsible. The
colleague we are hiring will lead the organization of various activities and events focused on content
themes linked to our collection, open days, INKOM, introductions, tours, and campaigns. You will carry
out these tasks with your colleagues, but you will be in the lead. You maintain a helicopter view and are
responsible for planning and organizing these activities and events.
Job RequirementsWe are looking for you if you feel at home in an academic library with a predominantly young and
international audience and can thrive by utilizing your planning, organizational, and information service
skills. Additionally, you are eager to learn and have an entrepreneurial attitude, as you play a crucial role
in continuously "upgrading" our services to align with new techniques and developments in our
Environment. Furthermore, You Possess
MBO/HBO working and thinking level in a relevant field such as services, information provision, and hospitality.
A representative appearance and work attitude, with experience in organizing activities and events.
Good digital skills.
Excellent communication skills, with good oral and written command of Dutch and English (level: Cambridge English: C1/Dutch: C1). If you do not yet fully meet this level, UM offers and pays for training.
Flexibility to work during the opening hours of UB locations, including evenings and weekends.
An ERO (emergency response) diploma or willingness to get certified.
What We OfferAs Library Services Employee with a focus on 'Informative Activities and Events'at Universiteits Bibliotheek, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 6 according to UFO profile Medewerker Bibliotheek Services, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €2618,00 and €3298,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 - 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
